Born in Wigan in 1960, Adrian Johnson's artistic talents became obvious at an early age. Following school and college in Wigan, he obtained a first class degree in Fine Art from the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art at Oxford University. Fascinated with the human form, he drew his early inspiration from the work of Auerbach and Kossoff and, despite suffering from a debilitating illness for much of his adult life, he has continued to work and develop his own distinctive style working mainly in oils and, more recently, acrylic.

Adrian held his first one man show at the Turnpike Gallery in Leigh in 1999. He is also keenly interested in poetry and has had a number of his works published.
